Week 4 EOC

Advertising is based on one thing: happiness. And do you know what happiness is? Happiness is the smell of a new car. It's freedom from fear. It's a billboard on the side of a road that screams with reassurance that whatever you're doing is OKAY. You are OKAY.

Many people see advertising and marketing as the same thing, but what they are not aware of is that advertising is actually a component of marketing. Advertising is spreading the awareness of what ever it is that you are trying to sell, may it be a product or something as simple as an idea.

If a young man tells his date she's intelligent, looks lovely, and is a great conversationalist, he's saying the right things to the right person and that's marketing. If the young man tells his date how handsome, smart and successful he is -- that's advertising. If someone else tells the young woman how handsome, smart and successful her date is -- that's public relations.

And marketing is a process or a series of processes. Marketing is a strategy that considers many variables as well as time and the costs of things. A marketing plan is built around the target customer; it is created to find the most successful way to reach them.

Week 3 EOC

The American dollar is certainly a tricky thing, whether it is weak or strong. There are pros and cons no matter what side you are on. What would I choose? Well…I would have to say a strong dollar and not just because that sounds cool. So why would I really say that? Well let me talk about the differences.

Okay, so what happens if you were to go with a weak dollar? I am not going to lie; if you were to go with a weak dollar then America begins to look bad. Yes, I realize that our economy will be stimulated because foreign countries will invest in us but what happens when one day the other countries realize that investing in a weakening dollar is a bad idea? Something else that will start to occur if America’s dollar is weak is that Americans themselves are going to begin to spend their hard earned money in other countries, and please explain to me why we would not want our currency remaining in the country it belongs?

Now if we somehow manage to bring our strong dollar back from extinction there will be a lot of much needed perks. The economy will finally rise because American’s will actually be investing in their own country and not spending their money elsewhere. Not only that but oil prices would drop and I do not know about everyone else but from what I understand the price of oil is the number one thing that I hear people complain about. I would love to have cheaper gas prices. We have to buy it…there is no way around it and let’s face it American’s drive gas guzzlers.

So if I was forced to choose I would have to decide on strong…and do not lie, that sounds way cooler!

Week 2 EOC

Let’s just start by saying that I have boycotted Subway. “What? Why?!”

Well, I used to work in an Outlet Mall. (Yeah I know, so exciting!) So, I was at work and it was my lunchtime and I had, regrettably, not brought any food with me. I decided to venture to the food court and after carefully going over each choice I found myself in the line at Subway. Things appeared to be going normal at first. My sandwich was complete, with not much conversation from the associate but I figured that was forgiveable. So I walked to the register to pay for what I was guessing was an affordable $5 foot long. Oh was I wrong! Apparently the outlet is “too good” for that campaign and decided that it is $10 for a foot long. Not only that but when I questioned their pricing the woman practically bit my head off. This woman rolled her eyes at a customer, used a mean tone and refused to explain the price difference. It was a good idea on her part. She figured out a great way to lose customers!

…and I haven’t touched another Subway sandwich since.

On the other hand, I never thought that I could encounter any kind of good customer service. I never thought that I would come by such a thing, but a few days ago I did. My friend decided that we should randomly go to Teavana. I agreed, but wasn’t thinking much of the trip since I do not drink tea. Right as we were about to enter the store we were greeted by a pleasant man. He offered us some samples and gave us some knowledge about each tea. (Samples always earn you brownie points by the way!) I’m not going to lie, I was not intending to purchase anything, but he was so kind that I almost changed my mind! I have to say that he is probably one of the nicest people I have met in retail in a long time, and I definitely appreciate that.

Week 1 EOC

Passion is the driving force in my profession; it always has been and always will be. Ever since I can remember I have been attached to a computer in one way or another. Although, I will admit that I did not give any notice to web design until I was about thirteen. It was a blog that began my venture into interactive media design; this blog was called Xanga. Being curious at a young age, I created an account and was unsatisfied with the feel of it. I was DETERMINED to design it and to get my creativity across; but, what I found was something that I did not know even existed. And this was coding. I’ll admit it, I was lost at first but I was determined and forced myself to absorb the information; and I have never lost that motivation.
